STARKVILLE, Miss.--For the fifth consecutive year, Mississippi State's music department is offering non-credit piano lessons to students in the Golden Triangle community.
A limited number of slots are available for individual lessons given by junior and senior piano majors, as well as staff instructors. The training will be overseen by professor and Steinway Artist Rosângela Yazbec Sebba, chair of the university department's piano concentration.
Aug. 27 is the deadline for registration, which may be completed at http://www.music.msstate.edu/files/piano_lessons.pdf/. Completed forms should be e-mailed to program instructor Trent Smith at pianistjoshuasmith@gmail.com.
Interviews will take place Aug. 31. For more information, contact Smith at 662-803-1445.
"This program allows us to train our students, as well as provide high-quality piano lessons and excellence for lifelong arts learning to our community," Sebba said.
The $370 tuition to be paid in full at registration includes $30 per lesson and a $10 registration fee for expenses related to administration and a concluding semester recital.
Participants in the 12-week program may choose between either a one-hour lesson or two half-hour lessons weekly. The curriculum follows requirements of the Mississippi Music Teachers Association, a division of the Music Teachers National Association.
To begin the first full week of September, lessons will take place in Music Building A, located on Morrill Road across from the T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability parking lot.
Sebba emphasized that the program does not apply to MSU students, faculty and staff. Interested persons in these campus categories should register for MUA 1010 for non-majors, where the credit-hour lessons are given weekly by adjunct faculty for a semester fee.
For additional information about the classes, contact Sebba at 662-325-2854 or rys3@colled.msstate.edu.
