First day of class includes student events Monday

The MSU Student Association and the Center for Student Activities will co-host two events on Monday [Aug. 20] in conjunction with the start of fall semester classes. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Drill Field will feature a showcase of Starkville area businesses and student organizations called “Shades of Starkville.”

In the evening, the MSU Student Association and the Alumni Association will host the 9th annual “The Drill” to welcome freshmen students to campus and celebrate the start of the academic year. Speakers include MSU President Mark Keenum, Football Coach Dan Mullen, Public Policy and Administration Professor Whit Waide, and Executive Director of the MSU Alumni Association Dr. Jimmy Abraham.

A limited number of t-shirts will be distributed and MSU ice cream will be served while supplies last. Freshman students are encouraged to stay after the program to sign the MSU Creed, which will be displayed in the Colvard Student Union in the coming weeks. Attendees are encouraged to bring their cowbells.
