Zerene cesonia caterpillars begin constructing chrysalises in the Counterman Lab at Harned Hall. Biological sciences assistant professor Brian Counterman's work focuses on discovering the genetic basis of wing color patterns presented by these native insects, commonly known as Southern dogface butterflies.
