Senior Danielle Phillips gives her winning speech Thursday during the first Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest in the Fowlkes Auditorium of Colvard Student Union. Sponsored by MSU’s African American Studies Program, the contest inspires undergraduate students from all majors to prepare and deliver original speeches that focus on an aspect of King’s life and legacy. In addition to earning the title of “MSU Dreamer,” the interdisciplinary studies major from Birmingham received a $200 award and trophy for her speech.
