Professor Mary Sheriff, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, spoke about 18th-century art as part of the Institute for the Humanities' Distinguished Lecture Series. Speaking to an appreciative audience, Sheriff's talk connected depictions of the Isle of Cythera--the mythological home to Venus--to the French colonization of Louisiana. For information on the next lectures in the series, including a Nov. 13 lecture by Dr. Jay Smith, see http://www.ih.msstate.edu.
