The fan-shaped leaves of a gingko tree formed a beautiful fall covering Wednesday near Patterson Hall. Native to China, gingkos provide excellent shade during summer months, despite their seeming delicate, almost ornamental, appearance. Actually, ginkos are the sole surviving species of a plant family that thrived during the Jurassic Period, 140-190 million years ago.
