Busy graduate student Amelia Treptow has already finished one degree and is working on another, all while playing a role in keeping campus running smoothly.
Treptow is the graduate resident director of Herbert Hall, the smallest and oldest of the residence halls on campus. In this role, Treptow's duties include overseeing the staff and building maintenance, as well as dealing with any problems that arise.
Originally from Minnesota, Treptow studied art and interior design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout before coming to Mississippi State for a master's degree in architecture, as well as one in student affairs.
"I've always known I wanted to do architecture and design," Treptow said. "I loved being in the garage working with my dad and doing crafts with my mom."
With her degrees in these two seemingly different areas, Treptow hopes to bring her combined knowledge of living and working on campus to the table as a designer.
"I really like campus design and planning. Campus design is such a big world, I feel there will always be opportunities and new experiences for me," she said.
Treptow also is co-chairing the campus' American Cancer Society Relay for Life event in April. She has been involved with planning the event all three years that it has been held.
"It is so much fun, like a big tailgate event," she said of the charity relay.
Treptow said she's fallen in love with the MSU and Starkville communities, in part because of what she feels is a close-knit community between residents and staff on campus.
"It feels like home here; everyone is very welcoming. I instantly had family and friends when I moved, which is nice when you're so far from all you know," she said.
