From the catwalk above Humphrey Coliseum to the crawl space below Magruder Hall and everything in between, Chris Cooksey knows nooks and crannies of the Mississippi State campus that most people never see.

A network infrastructure technician in Information Technology Services, Cooksey has worked on campus since 2004 installing and maintaining cabling for the campus's computer network, telecommunications, card access system, wireless network, and fiber optics.

"When you plug it in the wall, we take care of it from there to where you get your connection," Cooksey said.

The Eupora native said he was always interested in electronics, and he found it intriguing to figure out how things work.

"It's like a never-ending puzzle. Just when you think you've got it, it's a new challenge," Cooksey said. "I never know where I'm going to have to go during the day."

Cooksey explained that getting dirty is part of the job, but he enjoys knowing the campus layout like the back of his hand. The best part of his position, though, is helping others throughout the university and getting to meet lots of people around campus.

"When I see someone from campus out in town, I may not remember their name, but I remember what building they work in," Cooksey said.
