Starkville native and Mississippi State alumnus Jason Tiffin hasn't had to go very far to go around the world—the World Wide Web, that is.
As senior web developer and an ITS User Services team leader, he and his group tackle tough projects and challenging assignments that take Mississippi State's message and mission online.
Tiffin's interest in technology was piqued as a student when he was photo editor of The Reflector in the mid-1990s, a time when the Web was in its infancy and there were tremendous possibilities to pursue. After earning his MBA, he joined ITS in 1996.
"When I started, we did a little bit of everything—desktop support, programming, web design and development, server maintenance. You name it, we did it," he said.
He credits that background and wide-angle perspective as assets in his work today—work that remains very rewarding.
"The best part of my job is getting to know people from all of the different areas of the university. From academic departments to administrators, we get to see how all of the pieces fit together and gain an understanding of how the university operates," he said.
His group maintains more than 140 Mississippi State websites.
In their aptly named "discovery meetings," Tiffin and his colleagues work with campus clients to determine their goal for a website. "And we go from there," he said.
"Our goal is to develop a site that presents the client in the best light possible for the greater good of the university."
In his spare time, Tiffin is a State Games volleyball medalist, Cub Scout den leader, and youth baseball and basketball coach who enjoys taking a break from technology and getting outdoors with his wife, Allison, and son, Reese, a second grader.
