Linda Mitchell has spent her career at Mississippi State encouraging young people to find the best ways to be good citizens.

Along with the MSU extension professor's duties with 4-H development, she also serves as the vice-chair for the U.S. Congressional program and director of the Mississippi Congressional Award program. She has contributed to helping more than 600 youths ages 14-24 throughout the state volunteer in their communities. Mitchell believes everyone should use his or her talents in life to make the world a better place.

"I think we all need to be involved," Mitchell said. "It's about young people developing their leadership skills and being willing to make a difference."

Mitchell said that once young people learn how good it feels to help others, the experience can be addicting, leading them to mentor and assume important roles in their communities.

"We always look for ways for youth to get involved," she said.
