Erdogan Memili

Erdogan Memili has a passion for basic research and discovery.

An assistant professor in the department of animal and dairy sciences, Memili works with tiny cells (sperm, eggs and embryos) to discover new ways of improving livestock reproduction through ground-breaking genetic research.

The program involves working with diverse groups of scientists, as well as high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students and collaborators on functional genomics approaches.

Recently, Memili worked with researchers from around the globe to map the genome of cattle. Their results were published in the prestigious scientific journal, SCIENCE.

His work also has been published in Biology of Reproduction and The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and presented at many national and international conferences.

"I have loved doing research since my early days as a veterinary student at the University of Istanbul," Memili said. "Unlocking the mysteries of science is a journey of discovery and I believe the best is yet to come."

His scientific expedition took him to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Harvard University and GTC Biotherapeutics prior to joining the MSU faculty.
