Growing up in Ocean Springs, communication major Erin Kourkounis could always be found with her head stuck in a book. She loved exploring the worlds books offered, and through middle school and high school, her love of the written word ignited a desire to create stories of her own.

As a senior in high school, after years of penning stories in notebooks and journals, a journalism class and an epiphany set her on the path that would lead her to MSU and becoming editor in chief of The Reflector.

Kourkounis, who also is double-majoring in Spanish, said that after reporting for news, she was given the opportunity to serve as assistant news editor before moving into the top editorial position, providing her a diverse glimpse of what it takes to produce a newspaper.

"I wanted to work for The Reflector to get some practical experience," she said. "I started out as a sophomore as a green reporter with no idea about AP style and never pictured myself as an editor. Being editor in chief is an awesome experience and it's a good feeling to know I've been able to accomplish and learn so much."
