STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's music department and Starkville's St. Joseph Catholic Church are welcoming a well-known Italian concert pianist and educator for a free master class and concert.

Roberto Plano of Travedona Monate will lead a 10 a.m. Saturday [April 18] workshop organized by the university music department's piano program and open to all.

Technique and interpretation will be focus areas of his instruction at the MSU Band and Choral Rehearsal Hall on Hardy Road. Musically inclined students at the pre-collegiate and all higher education levels are being encouraged to attend.

During a 2:30 p.m. concert Sunday [the 19th] at St. Joseph's, Plano will perform works by Claude Debussy (1862-1918), Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915), Fazil Say (b. 1970), Andrea Luchesi (1741-1801) and Alberto Ginastera (1916-83). The church is located at 607 University Dr.

In addition to recognition as an accomplished soloist, Plano has extensive experience leading public master classes and orchestral collaborations throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. For more biographical information, see www.robertoplano.com/i_curriculum_roberto_plano.asp.

"This will be a good ending to Super Bulldog Weekend and is an opportunity that nobody should miss," she said.

Plano's visit is part of the Music Department Guest Series sponsored by the J.W. Criss Foundation, Starkville Area Arts Council and Golden Triangle Music Forum.
