Students to compete Friday in Cowbell Challenge

MEDIA ADVISORY: Cowbell Challenge asks students to ‘Ring Ingeniously!’

What: The Cowbell Challenge
When: Friday [Nov. 7] from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Mississippi State’s Drill Field in front of Lee Hall

Mississippi State fans prove every week that they can “ring responsibly.” Now, the Bagley College of Engineering wants to know if they can “ring ingeniously.”

On Friday [Nov. 7], teams of engineering students will compete in the Cowbell Challenge on MSU’s historic Drill Field. The competition asks each team to create a machine to automatically ring a standard Mississippi State cowbell in the most spirited way possible. Their creations will be on display from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Starting at 12:30 p.m., a panel of judges, including head softball coach Vann Stuedeman and Amy Tuck, vice president for campus services, will evaluate each team’s creation for functionality, creativity and the overall look of the entry.

A $500 prize will be awarded to the overall winner and the top-finishing team in each category: freshman-sophomore, junior-senior and graduate. The grand prize-winning device will be displayed at the Bagley College’s tailgate from noon until kickoff on Saturday.
