Mississippi State University will host officials from one of the worldâs leading research facilities next week.
Argonne National Lab Day at MSU takes place Sept. 9-10, and free online registration is available at www.tfaforms.com/290885.
During the two-day visit, MSU faculty, staff, administrators and students will have opportunities to meet with Argonne National Laboratory leaders and researchers and explore partnership and funding possibilities, among other topics.
Local industry and government representatives are also invited to participate.
The visit is designed to:
-- Inform MSU researchers about Argonneâs resources, facilities and proposal process;
-- Develop and vet proposals with Argonne personnel; and,
-- Identify new and facilitate existing research collaborations between Argonne and MSU.
âArgonne has significant infrastructure and expertise in imaging, analysis and high performance computing to support diverse research efforts that coincide with the universityâs research strategic plan and programs,â said Giselle Thibaudeau, director of MSUâs Institute for Imaging and Analytical Technologies and co-coordinator of the visit.
âThese programs include materials science and engineering, energy, transportation and cybersecurity,â she said.
According to its website, âArgonne is a multidisciplinary science and engineering research center, where âdream teamsâ of world-class researchers work alongside experts from industry, academia and other government laboratories to address vital national challenges in clean energy, environment, technology and national security.â
In FY12, the labâs annual budget was $794 million.
âArgonne leadership and we agree that both institutions benefit from engagement and collaborative research efforts,â said David Shaw, MSUâs vice president for research and economic development.
