STARKVILLE, Miss.--Years of hard work and study by senior art majors at Mississippi State will be showcased later this month on campus.
Organized by the university's art department, the showing of works by 10 students will be featured in the 2012 Fine Art and Photography Thesis Exhibition titled "Commune." The theme delves into the nature of communication and what really is meant by communing.
The works will be on display Nov. 13-17 in departmental galleries located on the ground floor of McComas Hall and the Visual Arts Center at 808 University Dr. They also are featured through Nov. 30 in the second-floor Colvard Student Union Art Gallery.
A series of public receptions Nov. 15 will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the McComas gallery, continue from 6:45-7:15 p.m. at the union gallery and conclude at 8 p.m. at the University Drive gallery.
The eight fine art and two photography majors each developed a body of artwork over a semester through work in a thesis course or photography portfolio class. Guided by professors Brent Funderburk and Marita Gootee, as well as individual faculty committees, they collaborated as a team to learn professional processes and produce an exhibition.
