STARKVILLE, Miss. -- For the second year in a row, an international fraternity honored its Mississippi State chapter for achieving the status of most outstanding chapter at a large campus.
The Mississippi Beta chapter of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity was honored with the organization's Harvard Trophy for member excellence as a result of exceptional campus involvement, community service and leadership.
Phi Delta Theta announced the Mississippi Beta chapter made significant accomplishments this year, including involvement in honor and professional societies, numerous volunteer projects and earning the highest total GPA among fraternities on campus for spring 2012.
The chapter strives to exemplify the three cardinal principles of Phi Delta Theta: friendship, moral rectitude and sound learning.
"We set ourselves apart from other Phi Delta Theta chapters because above all else, we stress to each other the importance of leaving our fraternity, our campus and our community better than when we started," said chapter president Will Ford, a senior biochemistry major from Columbus.
Ford also said the award signifies the chapter's continued tradition of excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and community service.
"It's incredible to win the Harvard Trophy two years in a row. At Mississippi Beta, we encourage each other to grow personally through campus involvement and community service, all while cultivating a strong brotherhood," he said.
Phi Delta Theta established the Mississippi Beta chapter at MSU in 1991 and has 83 active members.
