STARKVILLE, Miss.--A West Alabama senior is the third Mississippi State student in two years to be selected for a major national scholarship in interior design.
Taylor L. Webb of Cuba is among six university students receiving a $30,000 Celia Moh Scholarship for the 2012-13 school year.
The Moh Scholarship is considered among the preeminent academic honors for students planning careers in the home furnishings industry. In addition to covering tuition and fees, room, board and books, it includes an annual networking and resource-building trip to the High Point (N.C.) Market--the world's largest furnishings industry trade show--as well as informal internships and career guidance, among other benefits.
Seniors Jennifer Gates of Cleveland and Haley Haverstock of Murray, Ky., were Moh Scholars at MSU during the 2011-12 school year.
Webb, a President's List Scholar, previously received the Margaret Bateman Scholarship in the College of Architecture, Art and Design. The daughter of Michael and Pamela Webb, she is a member of the MSU Foundation Ambassadors student service organization.
According to scholarship guidelines, only select academic majors, departments or programs of study are approved for participation in the program. Three of the 2012-13 Moh Scholars attend North Carolina State University; the other two are at High Point University, also in North Carolina, and Ferris State University in Michigan.
To honor his wife in 2001, Laurence Moh, a furniture industry entrepreneur and founder of Universal Furniture and Fine Furniture Design, established the scholarship program. His $3 million endowment investment has provided more than 70 full scholarships over the years.
