STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State senior is the first university student being invited to attend the 62nd Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Germany.
In July, physics major Prajwal Mohanmurthy of Starkville will join more than two dozen Nobel Laureates and 550 other researchers and scholars from around the world to exchange ideas, discuss projects and build international networks. This Lindau gathering specifically is dedicated to the field of physics. The focus of the meetings alternates between physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine, and economics from year to year.
Since 1951, the Lindau meetings have brought together young researchers and Nobel winners to further educate and create a dialogue among today's brightest minds.
"Forming collaborations is extremely important," said Mohanmurthy, a native of India.
"A big part of the meetings is networking and socializing, and exchanging thoughts and concepts freely," he added.
Involving both undergraduate- and doctoral-level researchers, the program's participants are selected through a rigorous screening process. From an initial pool of 1,500, some 550 are chosen to join the Nobel Laureates, as well as government officials from participating countries, at the week-long conference.
"I'm grateful that Mississippi State supports me in all that I do," Mohanmurthy said. "At the end of the day, it's all thanks to the university."
