STARKVILLE, Miss.--The North Carolina-based Avett Brothers folk rock band will headline the Nov. 11 Bulldog Bash at Mississippi State.

Presented by Cellular South "Emerge: Mobilize Your Music" program, the annual free event is sponsored by the university's Student Association in the Cotton District residential area adjacent to campus. (For more about the band, click here.

Over the years, Bulldog Bash has drawn some 35,000 on a Friday night preceding a Saturday Southeastern Conference home football game. This year, it serves as a lead-up to MSU's game on the 12th with the University of Alabama.

Events begin at 3 p.m. with the "FanFare and Dawg Rally," while the concert kicks off at 5 p.m. and ends around midnight. "FanFare" includes multiple inflatables and other family fun activities.

Other 2011 performers include country music star Jake Owen, as well as Motown and rhythm and blues acts soon to be announced. The remaining acts will headline the MSU Alumni Association District Stage.

"We're excited to partner with Cellular South for the second year and again to be able to feature one of their 'Emerge: Mobilize Your Music' artists at Bulldog Bash," said senior Rhett Hobart of Greenville, SA president. "Bulldog Bash is not only a headline concert, but features at least six different bands each year."

In the coming weeks, Cellular South will announce a contest for their Emerge artists to select the opener to play on the Clark Beverage Group Main Stage.

"This year's artists were selected solely on the basis of suggestions received from our student body and alumni through our social media outlets and website," Hobart explained.

In addition to music, the festival features a vendor area with representatives from local companies, organizations and restaurants, and plenty of fresh foods.

Hobart said the popular entertainment and school-spirit boosting festival "couldn't be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, and we hope the critical support of these great businesses will continue and grow." For a complete list of sponsors, click here.

Senior Daniel Fisher of Aberdeen, Bulldog Bash co-director, added: "We also hope this event continues to maintain its status as Mississippi's largest free outdoor concert."
