STARKVILLE, Miss.-- The wife of a lifelong activist is stepping out from the shadows to tell her own story as a behind-the-scenes worker focused on making a positive impact in rural Mississippi.
Rosie Camper Weary will sign her new book "Stepping Out from the Shadows" in the John Grisham Room at Mississippi State University's Mitchell Memorial Library Tuesday [May 10] from 3--5 p.m. The President's Office is sponsoring the book signing event. Books may be purchased for $18.
Weary's husband, racial reconciliation activist Dolphus Weary, spoke to an MSU audience in January during the university's annual MLK Day Unity Breakfast.
"For most of her life, Rosie avoided the spotlight that shined on her husband, Dolphus, as he labored more visibly for the same causes she held dear," said Alexis Spencer-Byers, who assisted Weary in writing her story.
Now, she steps forward to tell her half of the couple's shared experiences of growing up poor and leaving Mississippi. Weary said the couple felt called back to the state by God to serve others by working with issues of poverty, racism and education.
