STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State University Wind Ensemble will feature music by composers ranging from Ralph Hultgren to Gustav Holst in a concert Tuesday [Nov. 9].

Under the direction of Elva Kaye Lance, the wind ensemble performs the free program at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium.

Graduate student Matt Chisolm will be the concert's featured organist, performing David Gillingham's "Prophecy of the Earth," a symphonic poem for band and organ. Assistant director of bands Craig Aarhus will also conduct the "First Suite in E-flat" by Holst.

The MSU Wind Ensemble is the university's premier instrumental group. Involving both music and non-music majors selected by audition, its repertoire includes the best of traditional and contemporary works. In addition to campus performances each semester, the ensemble conducts a regional performance tour annually during the spring semester.

The band has been the featured university group at the Mississippi Bandmaster's Convention three times in the past 10 years and has performed for the Mississippi All-State Concert Band. In 2008, the ensemble performed in the British Isles, concluding with a concert at the Royal Armed Forces School of Music in Twickenham, England.
