STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's University Florist will hold a holiday open house on Friday [Oct. 29] to showcase a variety of seasonal designs.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the state's only student-run florist will feature winter holiday arrangements created by undergraduates in the floral management program.

"We're opening the season with a collection of trees and table decor created by the permanent botanicals class," said Lynette McDougald, University Florist manager and floral management instructor.

Themes for the arrangements include:

--Royal tannenbaum, shades of royal blue and purple with lime accents.

--Mid-century aqua with red on silver tinsel tree.

--Rustic reds and metallics with cotton garlands on silver fir tree.

--Popular upside down tree with crystal and mirrored decor.

Adding to the open house color scheme, a collection of fall arrangements and wreaths by MSU's student chapter of the American Institute of Floral Designers will be available for sale as a fundraiser. Also, McDougald will display her floral designs with popular McCarty pottery of nutmeg, jade and cobalt colors.

This same day, Jim DelPrince, professor of plant and soil sciences and noted floral designer, will present a program on holiday designs to show and discuss trends, techniques, and an array of products from noon to 1 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union Dawg House.

Following DelPrince's program, attendees will be invited to a free lunch at the University Florist.
