STARKVILLE, Miss.--Will incumbent Blue Dog Democrats Travis Childers and Gene Taylor survive the 2010 Republican mid-term tidal wave?
Local and statewide political observers, along with national media and pundits, will closely watch Mississippi's 1st and 4th Congressional District races for U.S. representative.
Survival rates of Democrats in congressional districts nationwide look grim, according to many national pundits. How the GOP and Democratic parties will fare on Nov. 2 mid-term elections will be one of many topics discussed Wednesday at Mississippi State University's Mitchell Memorial Library during a forum on U.S. midterm elections, hosted by the university's department of political science and public administration.
Open and free to the public, the forum will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the library's auditorium.
Contributing to the discussion, the panel will include Robbin Mellen, an assistant professor of political science and public administration whose research focus includes midterm elections; Marty Wiseman, director of the Stennis Institute of Government and nationally recognized authority on Southern politics; Whit Waide, an instructor of political science and public administration and former general counsel for Mississippi State Treasurer Tate Reeves; and state Sen. Terry Burton, chairman of the joint legislative redistricting committee.
In addition to mid-term Congressional elections, the panel also will discuss 2010 gubernatorial elections, reappointment and redistricting related to Mississippi and the nation, and state legislative elections.
