MEDIA ADVISORY: International law and relations expert to lecture

International law and relations expert Cmdr. James Kraska will present "Maritime Power in the Western Pacific" when he addresses the Executive Lecture Forum of Jackson at 11:45 a.m., Thursday [Oct. 7] at the Fairview Inn. The event is part of the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security at Mississippi State University.

Kraska is the Howard S. Levie Chair of Operational Law and senior associate in the Center for Irregular Warfare and Armed Groups at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I. He is an interdisciplinary scholar specializing in the intersection between international law and international relations.

An author of more than 60 articles and book chapters, he also has books forthcoming from Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, and Praeger Security International.

He holds appointments as a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia and as a guest investigator at the Marine Policy Center, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, Mass.

A summa cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University, Kraska holds multiple advanced degrees including a doctor of juridical science (S.J.D.) from the University of Virginia and a doctor of jurisprudence (J.D.) from Indiana University, Bloomington. He also earned a master's of international law (L.L.M.) from the University of Virginia, master's of arts (M.A.) in defense and foreign policy from Clarement College, and a diploma from the College of Naval Command and Staff, U.S. Naval War College.
