STARKVILLE, Miss.--Roger King, director of Mississippi State University's Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), and Clay Walden, director of the CAVS Extension Center in Canton, will be in Tunica this week [Oct. 6-8] for the Southern Automotive Conference (SAC)--a gathering of auto manufacturers, suppliers, service companies and industry leaders, along with economic developers and elected officials.

"Auto manufacturing is a vital and growing part of the region's economy. Meeting the needs of industry, fostering research opportunities, and boosting the development of a highly-skilled and tech-savvy workforce are essential priorities at CAVS, and we're looking forward to sharing that with the SAC audience," King said. He will participate in a panel discussion titled "Preparing for the Electric Car: Smart Grid, Clean Energy and Energy Policy."

The conference is presented by the Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association (MAMA), in conjunction with the Tennessee Automotive Manufacturers Association, Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association, and MSU CAVS. Portions of the proceeds from the conference help support the MAMA scholarship fund. More than 350 attendees are expected for this year's event.

"We're looking forward to sharing our success stories during the conference," Walden said. "The partnerships we have developed with businesses are making an economic impact in the state, and we see the potential for growth as the industry expands."

He will participate in a session on rapid problem solving designed to illustrate fast and flexible approaches for effective solutions to the challenges companies confront every day.
