Kight named assistant business college fundraiser

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Jimmy Kight is the new assistant director of development for Mississippi State's College of Business.

Kight began his new duties Oct. 1. He comes to the business college from the university's Office of Admissions and Scholarships, where he had served since 2007 as a regional admissions counselor for Jackson and the surrounding area.

In his new role, Kight will work with veteran fundraiser and alumnus Jack McCarty, the business college's director of development, on fundraising and alumni activities for the large academic unit.

"Fundraising for the MSU Foundation and the College of Business will allow me be involved with former students who have become successful alumni. I look forward to the challenge of fundraising and the thrill of continuing to make a positive impact on my alma mater," he said.

Kight explained his experience with student recruitment for MSU will assist him in his new development role.

"As an admissions counselor, I was able to gain perspective from meeting with future students on how scholarships and university support affect recruitment and retention at Mississippi State," the Philadelphia [Miss.] native said.

Bo Hemphill, executive director of development for the MSU Foundation, said, "Mississippi State is fortunate to have Jimmy Kight step into this new role with the business college. He's done an outstanding job as an admissions counselor, and we anticipate he will work well with donors and prospects of the university."

Mississippi State's College of Business--one of the Southeast's oldest--is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Its graduates can be found at the top levels of Fortune 500 businesses, as well as throughout state and regional commercial and industrial firms.

Kight holds a bachelor of arts in communication with an emphasis in public relations and broadcasting from MSU. He is married to Mary Kathryn Adams, a fellow 2007 MSU communication graduate, who is a native of Greenville. Former residents of Brandon, the couple now resides in Starkville.
