STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mothers of infant children who visit Mississippi State University now have an added amenity with the recent introduction of seven lactation support rooms.

Whether attending Bulldog sports, musical concerts, theatrical performances, or any other campus event, nursing mothers can take advantage of the convenient service along with MSU faculty, staff, and students.

Julie Berry, lactation support committee chair and student support services director, said, "We are excited about the ability to meet this need and hope the service will help all nursing mothers on campus after the birth of a child."

According to Berry, most of the lactation rooms are within a five minute walk from the center of campus, with additional rooms available at Humphrey Coliseum, Wise Center, and Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park.

The locations can be recognized by the national breast-feeding symbol on or adjacent to the entryway. A table, chair, and electrical outlet will be provided in each room, with signage displaying whether the room is vacant or in use.

Roger Baker, campus master planner, said that as the program grows, the university hopes to have additional locations.

The rooms are sponsored by the MSU Office of the Provost and the Division of Student Affairs.
