STARKVILLE, Miss.--A one-man portrayal of the 18th century English theologian who founded the Methodist faith takes place Tuesday [March 9] at Mississippi State.

"The Man from Aldersgate" features missionary BJ Johnston of Jackson in the role of John Wesley (1703-91). [Editor note: BJ is correct.]

To begin at 7 p.m. in the McComas Hall main theater, the dramatic performance is sponsored by the university's communication department.

General admission tickets are $10 each. For group purchases of 10 tickets, two complimentary tickets will be provided.

Johnston has adapted his performance from Wesley's journals and a script by playwright Brad L. Smith.

"John Wesley probably did more to promote holiness than any other figure in English history," Johnston has said of the man who rode over 250,000 miles on horseback, seeking to bring spiritual renewal in America and other parts of the English-speaking world.

Johnston holds degrees from Stephen's and Scarritt colleges, as well as other arts training from the Wisconsin Mime School, Cambridge School of Ballet and Boston University. He also draws on more than 13 years in the mission fields, his appearance in more than 50 theater productions and time touring the nation with a Christian singing group.
