STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Mississippi State University Foundation is announcing four new members, three new officers and six returning members on its 46-seat board of directors.
Having begun their three-year terms Jan. 1, the MSU alumni in their inaugural appointments include (by city of residence):
BAY ST. LOUIS--Leo W. Seal III. President of the Leo Seal Family Foundation, he is a 2000 geosciences graduate.
HOUSTON, Texas--Herbert V. Johnson. President of HVJ Associates Inc., he is a 1978 civil engineering graduate who went on to earn a master's degree in 1981. [Residential ZIP code 77082]
MENDHAM, N.J.--James E. Newsome. Retired president/CEO of the New York Mercantile Exchange, he received a master's degree in agriculture in 1985, followed by a doctorate in agricultural economics in 2001. VICKSBURG--Stephen D. Golding. He is president of Golding Barge Line Inc. and a 1972 transportation graduate.

ATLANTA, Ga.--Treasurer D. Hines Brannan Jr. Retired partner with Accenture, he is a 1970 industrial engineering graduate who earned a master of business administration degree the following year. [Residential ZIP code 30327]
HOUSTON, Texas--President James J. Rouse, a 1962 management graduate and a retired ExxonMobil vice president; and vice president Bobby Shackouls, a 1972 chemical engineering graduate and retired president/CEO of Burlington Resources Inc. [Both residential ZIP codes are 70777]
Incorporated in 1962, the MSU Foundation works to solicit funding from private sources to supplement the university's legislative appropriations. The organization also administers academic fundraising activities and endowment funds.
Through the years, a host of prominent alumni and friends of the university have held board seats. Board members may be reappointed after leaving for at least a year following the completion of their three-year terms.

ATLANTA, Ga.--Linda M. Garrett. A retired principal of Garrett Associates Inc., she is a 1969 accounting graduate who holds a master's degree in business administration from Georgia College and University. [Residential ZIP Code 30319]
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.--Earnest W. "Earnie" Deavenport Jr. Retired chairman and CEO of Eastman Chemical, he is a 1960 chemical engineering graduate who holds a master's degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
GREENWOOD--Fred E. Carl Jr. President and CEO of Viking Range Corp., he attended MSU's School of Architecture and is a graduate of Delta State University.
MADISON--Dr. Karen D. Hulett. A medical consultant for the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, she is a 1972 general science graduate who went on to receive a medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
MERIDIAN--J. F. "Bud" Thompson Jr. A partner with The Thompson Group, he is a 1962 mathematics education graduate.
SAN MARCOS, Texas--Hunter W. Henry Jr. A 1950 chemical engineering graduate, he is the retired president of Dow Chemical USA.
John P. Rush, MSU vice president for development and alumni, is the foundation board's CEO; David Easley, executive director of finance, its chief financial officer; and Bo Hemphill, executive director of development, board secretary. They, too, are MSU graduates.
The MSU Foundation currently is in the midst of a new fundraising effort. "StatePride: An Initiative for Student and Faculty Support" has raised in excess of $30 million toward a $100 million goal. The effort continues through December 2012.
