STARKVILLE, Miss.--Middle and high school teachers are being invited to receive free graduate-level credit or continuing education units offered at Mississippi State this summer by the Insurance Education Institute.

Made possible by the Ohio-based Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, the July 12-15 program is designed to help the class leaders incorporate insurance education into their lesson plans.

Early registration is encouraged.

The training includes a mid-June online component, followed the following month with a weeklong session on the university campus. Among other things, funding by the non-profit foundation covers, tuition, books, materials, meals, and overnight accommodations for the on-campus portion.

Teachers of business, economics, family and consumer sciences, marketing, mathematics, and related risk management fields could benefit the most, said Ed Duett, holder of the MSU College of Business' Peter K. Lutken Chair of Insurance.

"The institute places special emphasis on teaching the relevance of insurance to high school and middle school students," the finance professor explained, noting that provision of classroom materials and information on career opportunities are among other facets of the training.

Three hours of graduate credit or five continuing education units may be awarded upon completion of the program.
