STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State University celebrates the 132nd anniversary of its creation by the Legislature with a Feb. 26 birthday party given by the university's alumni association and Starkville's Cadence Bank.

Free and open to all, the campus celebration takes place 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Junction. Complimentary hamburgers, chips, cookies, soft drinks, and MSU ice cream will be provided, while supplies last.

In addition:

--Slices of a giant cake baked by MSU Dining Services will be distributed, also as long as the supply lasts.

--The Campus Activities Board is sponsoring entertainment by Jamie Davis & Soul Gravy, a Booneville-based band performing a mix of country, folk and soul music. Free birthday T-shirts will be tossed from the performance stage at some point during the party.

--MSU Athletics is donating a limited number of free admissions to the 4 p.m. home baseball game that day against Southeastern Louisiana University. The first 132 guests arriving at the Junction will receive a game ticket. (MSU students do not qualify since they have free admission.)

At the baseball game, Nancy M. Bearden of Louisville will be honored with throwing the ceremonial first pitch. An MSU Extension Service/Winston County office associate, Bearden is the longest-serving current employee--50 years with the land-grant institution established Feb. 28, 1878, by a vote of state lawmakers.
