STARKVILLE, Miss.--An exhibition opening Monday [Oct. 12] at Mississippi State will feature a watercolor series on historical structures around the state.

Titled "Narratives," the collection by Starkville artist and university senior Tracie Grace Lyons includes architectural drawings and sculptures on display through Oct. 29 in the Giles Hall Gallery at the School of Architecture. A 5:30 p.m. gallery reception for the artist will be held Thursday [the 15th].

The exhibit is sponsored by the College of Architecture, Art and Design, whose offices also are located in Giles Hall at the intersection of Collegeview Street and Barr Avenue.

Lyons is scheduled to graduate in May with a bachelor of fine arts degree. Her exhibition grew from a class project, expanding into a series of architectural narratives about the South. Each drawing required 60-100 hours to complete.

Lyons said her goal was to "reveal the architectural drama, the local superstitions, and the friendship and love embedded in the heart of each of these buildings." She currently is focusing on Lee Hall, a Mississippi Landmark building at MSU.

Lyons' work has been accepted into a number of competitive events, including two for the Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition. She also has been awarded the MSU Division of Student Affairs Purchase Award.
