STARKVILLE, Miss.--A New York educator and activist for the prevention of violence against women speaks Monday [Nov. 2] at Mississippi State.

"A Call to Men" is the topic of Tony Porter's 6 p.m. presentation in the Colvard Union's Foster Ballroom. The program is open to all.

Sponsored by the campus' Student Counseling and Sexual Assault services, this is the first such program at the university that directly addresses male responsibilities in preventing partner violence.

The author of "Breaking Out of the Man Box," Porter is co-founder of A Call to Men: the National Association of Men and Women Committed to Ending Violence against Women. He also is a faculty member at the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services' Academy of Addiction Studies.

In addition to numerous domestic violence and sexual assault programs, he currently is working with the National Football League and National Basketball Association, as well as various colleges and universities around the nation.
