STARKVILLE, Miss.--As part of two home football games next month, Mississippi State is sponsoring several welcoming events for high school musicians and family members of the Famous Maroon Band.
The university's music department-organized activities Oct. 3 and 10 will be part of the Bulldogs' games with the Georgia Institute of Technology Yellowjackets and University of Houston Cougars, respectively.
On the 3rd, some 250 musicians from around the state will have the opportunity to perform with one of the South's oldest marching units when the FMB again plays host for 2009 High School Band Day.
Band members in grades 9-12 will join the 330-member varsity unit for a special performance at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field. Prior to the game, participants will attend a concert by the host groups and tour the new campus rehearsal hall that also serves the department's choral programs.
On the 10th, more than 500 parents and family of FMB members will be guests for the Homecoming game and festivities. Following family photography sessions, parents will be part of a parade to the stadium, where they will be recognized during halftime. After the game, the guests will attend a tailgate dinner being held in their honor.
