STARKVILLE, Miss.--A memorial service at Mississippi State is being held Friday [Feb. 27] for a university faculty member in the geosciences department.
Leo Lynch, 49, died Tuesday [Feb. 24] at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He had taught at MSU since 1999.
The public service begins at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories.
Department head Darrel Schmitz said a memorial fund also has been established at Starkville's Citizens Bank to assist Lynch's family with expenses.
"Dr. Lynch was very well-liked in our department and known for his incredible gift of humor," Schmitz said. "He leaves behind a family whose needs we want to help support in whatever way we can."
A doctoral graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Lynch taught courses in mineralogy, sedimentary geology, optical mineralogy, and petrology, among others.
