Community-faculty chorus welcomes seasons in Tuesday concert

STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Chorus presents its 2008 fall concert Tuesday [Nov. 25] in the sanctuary of Starkville's First United Methodist Church.

Titled "Music for the Seasons," the free program begins at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of conductor Ted Beverly, the group will feature Thanksgiving and Christmas selections by such composers as Jean Baptiste Lully, John Rutter, Howard Helvey, Ruth Schram, Jane Holstein, Susan Callaway, Don Besig, and Lana Walter.

A new composition, "The Awakening" by Joseph Martin, also will be introduced.

Jeremy Adcock, the church's organist and staff accompanist, opens the evening with "Carillon" from Louis Verne's "24 Pieces en Style Libre." Church pianist Lauren Zumwalt will accompany for two pieces.

Guest artist Sonja Feig Giles, an assistant professor of flute at Iowa State University, will be highlighted in "Fantasia on Greensleeves." She will be joined on trumpet by Virgina Huff, an East Mississippi Community College music instructor.

Beverly is the FUMC's director of music ministries.
