STARKVILLE, Miss.--For the ninth year, a weeklong workshop teaching the basics of floral design is being offered by Mississippi State University.
July 7 is the registration deadline for the limited-space training program to be held July 21-25. Registration may close early, however, if workshop capacity is reached.
The popular program targets both professionals and beginners with educational needs in entry-level floral design. Participants are requested to bring a knife, wire cutter and scissors.
Classes will be led by workshop veterans Jim DelPrince and Lynette McDougald, both members of the American Institute of Floral Designers. They will be joined this year by Will Hunt Lewis of Greenville's Stems Floral Design.
DelPrince is an associate professor of floral design in the sponsoring department of plant and soil sciences. McDougald is manager of the MSU Florist and an instructor in the program.
Held in the florist's design studio, sessions will run 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, with a one-hour lunch break.
The registration fee is $450, if received prior to July 1; $550 thereafter. The fee covers all plant materials and florist supplies used.
Residential accommodations are available on campus in Herbert Hall Conference Housing and the Butler-Williams Guest House. A number of motels also are located throughout Starkville.
