STARKVILLE, Miss.--A new student dance group holds its first performance April 17 at Mississippi State University.

The Terpsichore Dance Theater Co.'s production of "Emotions through Dance: Expressions of MSU Dancers" will begin at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall auditorium.

General admission is $5; $2 for MSU students and employees with valid identification.

The organization, which currently includes more than a dozen members from a variety of academic and cultural backgrounds, was created to focus on "improving participants previously acquired dance skills, as well as the development of new dance skills," said member Danielle Williams, a senior interior design and photography double-major from Pontotoc.

"Ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop dances will be performed to music from several genres, including jazz, classical and rock," she said. "This first performance also will feature guest dance groups."

Debby Funderburk, a dance instructor in the kinesiology department, is the group's adviser.

Following Terpsichore's inaugural performance, Funderburk and the founding membership will hold an audition interest session at 6 p.m. April 21 in 225 McCarthy Gymnasium for potential new members. Actual auditions will take place on the 26th.
