STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two Mississippi State students have been arrested following a Thursday night campus incident involving two handguns. No one was injured, and the weapons were subsequently recovered by university police officers.
Michael Brown, a junior from College Park, Ga., and Quinton Wesley, a sophomore from Atlanta, have been dismissed from the university pending a campus judicial hearing. They also have been dismissed from the MSU football squad.
Brown is charged with possession of a firearm; Wesley, with aggravated assault--both felonies--in an incident that was reported around 9:30 p.m. at the Zacharias Village, a cluster of four residence halls at the northeast corner of campus.
"University police detectives continue to interview witnesses, and additional criminal charges are being considered," said Dean of Students Mike White.
"Officers determined there was no threat to other students and moved quickly to secure the area and recover the weapons," he said.
