STARKVILLE, Miss.--Marching units from around the state are being invited to take part Sept. 22 in Mississippi State's annual Band Day program.

Sponsored by the university's Famous Maroon Band, the group performances and other activities will be part of the home football game with Gardner-Webb University that begins at 6 p.m.

"Registration will be limited to the first 250 pre-paid applicants," said band director Elva Kaye Lance. "Sept. 14 is the registration deadline."

In addition to performing from the stands and during a halftime, on-field collaboration with MSU's 104-year-old marching unit, participants will be special guests for an exhibition earlier in the day by the band's drum line.

"The combined halftime show will feature more than 500 musicians," Lance said.

Visiting students and band directors also will be given tours of the multi-million dollar indoor rehearsal hall that opened recently on South Hardy Road to serve both the MSU band and the music department's choral programs.

Lance said the $25-per-student registration fee covers lunch, game admission and a souvenir T-shirt.

"Since a large number of applications is anticipated, we are encouraging local directors and band members to register as soon as possible," Lance said. Applications may be completed at http://msuband.msstate.edu/, she added.
