STARKVILLE, Miss.--An award-winning guitarist who has earned international recognition will be featured in concert Oct. 8 at Mississippi State.

Elliot Frank, who founded the guitar program at East Carolina University and continues to teach there, will present a free public recital at 3 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium of Giles Hall.

Frank's performance is part of the visiting artist series sponsored by the university's music department. His MSU program will feature works by Antonio Lauro, Rafael Scarfullery, Andrew Zohn, Augustin Barrios, Isaac Albeniz, Jose Luis Merli, and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Applauded by critics and fellow artists for blending virtuosity, tone and musicianship, Frank has given special focus to the music of Hispanic cultures. He has been a competition prize winner in Puerto Rico's Concurso International de la Casa de Espana and Venezuela's Concurso Internacional de Guitarra.

"South American Guitar Music," his debut compact disc recording, is released on the ACA Digital label with distribution through Albany Records. The collection features works of Agustin Barrios and Venezuelan artist Antonio Lauro.

An active solo recitalist, chamber player and concerto soloist throughout the Americas, Frank also has appeared at venues in Europe.
