STARKVILLE, Miss.--The director of the Hurricane Insurance Information Center will discuss Hurricane Katrina's impact on the state during a Thursday [Nov. 17] public program at Mississippi State.

To begin at 12:30 a.m. in 13 Allen Hall, the presentation by Bill Bailey is sponsored by the university's Peter K. Lutken Chair of Insurance.

In the aftermath of Katrina, the U.S. insurance industry established the center in Flowood to provide immediate information on the industry's response to the catastrophe. The center presently is located on Riverwood Drive at offices of the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi.

The industry created similar information offices following Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the Northridge, Calif., earthquake in 1994 and 9/11 attacks on New York City in 2001, among other national disasters.

Bailey spent 15 months in South Florida following Andrew and has written about its devastation.

MSU's Lutken Chair, or endowed professorship, is part of the finance and economics department in the College of Business and Industry.

For more information on Bailey's address, telephone (662) 325-7475.
