Association of Retired Faculty honored students

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Four Mississippi State students were honored by the university's Association of Retired Faculty at the conclusion of the 2004 fall semester. Recognizing outstanding achievements and accompanied by a $250 check, each specifically named ARF award also serves as a memorial to a deceased member of the service organization.

Senior aerospace engineering major Angela M. Spence of Brandon is the 2004 Harry C.F. Simrall Engineering Excellence Scholar. Spence is an MSU President's Scholar who earlier was named Outstanding Aerospace Engineering Senior by the Bagley College of Engineering. Her latest honor is named for MSU's longtime engineering dean. Spence is the daughter of Donald Spence of Brandon and Jane Jackson of Philadelphia.

Senior animal science major Amanda Bousson of Collierville, Tenn., is the 2004 Charles Lindley Leadership Scholar. Bousson serves this year as president of the MSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ambassadors, a student liaison and service organization. Her award is named for the college's longtime dean. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Bousson, she also is a member of Order of Omega, Gamma Beta Phi, Alpha Theta Chi, and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies.

Virginia H. Rogers of Jackson, a master's degree student in foreign languages, is the 2004 Peyton W. Williams Distinguished Writing Scholar. Rogers entered graduate school immediately after graduating in May with dual MSU degrees, both magna cum laude, in English and French. Her latest honor is named for the English professor who was a longtime editor of the Mississippi Quarterly, an MSU-based scholarly journal of Southern culture. Rogers is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Rogers.

Senior architecture major Robert L. Eubanks of Lucedale is the 2004 William L. Giles Architectural Excellence Scholar. Eubanks is an MSU Dean's Scholar who accompanies his studies by serving as a marketing assistant in the Fred Carl Small Town Center, the College of Architecture, Art and Design's community outreach and research arm. His award is named for MSU's 13th president, under whose administration the college was established. Eubanks is the son of David Eubanks and John and Edie Hale, all of Lucedale.
