Online part-time job listings now linking employers, MSU students

Mississippi State and area chambers of commerce are offering a new service that enables businesses to find high-quality, part-time employees while helping university students cope with rising costs of education.

A centralized job listing provided by MSU's Career Services office lets employers and students find each other on the Internet. The directory may be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week at any Internet-connected computer.

Mississippi State students provide a supplemental work force for businesses throughout Clay, Lowndes, Oktibbeha, and Winston counties.

To list one or more jobs on the web site, employers must first register with MSU Career Services by visiting http://www.career.msstate.edu and clicking on "Information for Employers."

After completing a simple online form, the account is activated and made available for use on the next business day. Employers then can post jobs, along with information about how and when students should apply for or inquire about the positions.

Assistance in using the centralized job listing system is available by contacting Career Services at career@career.msstate.edu or (662) 325-3344.

"Students will be able to check the job listings on the Career Services web site as soon as they return to campus for the start of classes on Aug. 20 or they can visit the site from their home to see what is available," said office director Luther Epting.

Chambers of commerce in Starkville, Columbus, West Point, and Louisville are helping to provide information about the service to their members, Epting said. Hundreds of students are expected to review the jobs posted on the Career Services web site.

All part-time jobs will be posted automatically for 30 days unless the employer designates a different period. Job listings may be edited at any time and previous listings can be retrieved, reactivated and re-posted at any time.
