A Mississippi State computer engineering major from Columbus is a winner in the national Intel 2001 Research Award Contest.
Senior Jonathan E. Creekmore is one of 17 being honored by Intel Corp.'s Microprocessor Research Laboratories.
The competitive program seeks to promote exploration of the frontiers of computing by providing cash grants to undergraduate students in the sciences and engineering disciplines.
Creekmore is receiving a $2,000 award to complete his research on a low-cost direct digital frequency synthesis for wireless computer systems. His research is directed by J.W. Bruce, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering.
In April 2002, Creekmore and the other national winners will gather at Intel's Santa Clara, Calif., headquarters for the company's Student Research Day. After all have presented the results of their investigations, participants judged to have the first-, second- and third-place entries will receive cash awards of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, respectively.
Creekmore is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Erman Creekmore and a 1998 graduate of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. At MSU, he is an ERGON/Diversified Technology Engineering Scholar and a member of Phi Kappa Phi international scholastic honor society.
