Mississippi State University's first participant in the Global Engineering Education Exchange program is studying this semester in the land of koalas, kangaroos and Survivor II.

Misti L. Marr of Ocean Springs recently enrolled at Australia's Monash University in Melbourne.

The senior biological engineering major is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Marr and a 1998 Ocean Springs High School graduate. At MSU, she is a Hosmer Engineering Excellence Scholar and a member of Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honor society.

Administered by the New York City-based Institute of International Education, the exchange program allows students to receive practical engineering training while taking courses overseas for credit at their home institutions. The program has member schools in 17 countries.

MSU joined the exchange in 1999 and is among 28 American universities currently participating.
