Music education faculty recital begins MSU fall concert series

Six Mississippi State faculty artists will launch the university's fall concert series Sept. 24 with a chamber recital at the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville.

The 3 p.m. program will feature the works of composers Dietrich Buxtehude, Paul Creston and Henk Badings.

Performers will include:

--Music education department faculty members Leanne Fazio at the organ; Lana Johns, on flute; Robert Damm, marimba; Kelly Samarzea, mezzo-soprano; and Michael Brown, trumpet;

--The Presbyterian Chancel Choir directed by Linda Karen Smith, also an MSU music education faculty member; and

--Eric Daffron, organist and choirmaster at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus and a former organist at Starkville First United Methodist Church. Daffron teaches English at Mississippi University for Women.

While there is no concert admission charge, donations are encouraged to support the department's continuing public musical programs.

Among them will be an Oct. 12 performance by Brown and Harrison and an Oct. 24 program featuring the music of American Neo-Classical composer Samuel Barber.

First Presbyterian is located at 307 University Dr. in the downtown area.
