Student wins national scholarship

A Mississippi State University senior is this year's recipient of a national criminal justice scholarship.

Carrie O'Callaghan of Trussville, Ala., was awarded the $500 Ben S. Meeker Scholarship from the Federal Parole and Probation Officers Association.

The group presents the award annually to someone who is the child of a parole or probation officer and studying criminal justice. Applicants must write a paper explaining why criminal justice is their career choice and the association then selects the winning essay.

O'Callaghan is majoring in sociology/criminal justice and also working as a dispatcher for the University Police Department.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John O'Callaghan.
