Leiter appointed to national board

A Mississippi State University dean is a newly appointed member of the national board for continuing education studies.

Robert B. Leiter is an at-large representative on the 25-member board for the University Continuing Education Association. He heads Mississippi State's Division of Continuing Education, home of the state's largest independent study program.

The association has served colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations since 1915. The Washington, D.C.-based organization currently has 410 member institutions around the United States.

During his one-year term, Leiter will serve on the board's finance committee. He recently completed a three-year term as a director for the Association of Continuing Higher Education.

Leiter said one of his goals on the board will be to work for "a more effective delivery of classes to the nontraditional student."

Leiter is in his seventh year at Mississippi State. A native of Ashland, Ohio, he received a bachelor's degree from Ashland University, a master's degree from Edinboro (Pa.) University and a doctorate from the University of Cincinnati.
